To our surprise, it was not raining this morning. We made our way up Sharp Top mountain which was a hellish climb. By the time I got to the top, my knee was twinging with pain so hard that I couldn’t help but exclaim as my knee buckled. “That’s it we are getting off” Danny said. Unwillingly I agreed and we made plans to head into Franklin, North Carolina early. Just as we started walking again, the sky dumped a bucket of rain on us and we heard thunder in the distance. We gotta get up and over that mountain before it gets too dangerous. With a new found energy, I put the pain out of my mind and upped my pace to get up and over the mountain. With each roll of thunder my nerves jumped to a whole new level. I knew I’d be put in some iffy situations, but I didn’t think it would be this soon. As soon as we made it over the top, the thunder and rain let up significantly. Real nice of you to stop as soon as we get over the mountain, I thought to myself. Making it to our rendezvous point, we sat defeated on a log with the rain hitting our soggy frogg toggs as we waited for our ride. We hitched a ride from a man named Jeff who drive us into town telling wild stories of his car flying off the sides of curves into the ditches of the road we were currently driving along. Not the most reassuring thing to hear but at least we were out of the rain and on our way to a warm shower and bed. By the time we were showered, the only thing on our brains was food. We ordered $60 worth of Pizza Hut and devoured it within minutes. We joked about the day and tried to make light of our situation. It could be worse. We could be quarantined in our houses. At least we still get to hike.
