Our Tramily Begins: Day 7

Updated: May 15, 2020

We woke up an hour before the shuttle, showerEd, packed up, and said our goodbyes to Disco Fries. We hopped in the van and were greeted with two vaguely familiar faces. I wracked my brain trying to figure out where I had seen them and then it clicked! I watched them set up their tent our first night on trail! Their names were Kory and Kyle. We chatted the whole ride back to Unicoi Gap and found out one of them is a fellow music major. Kyle was a trumpet music major at FSU and Kory was in the nursing program. These guys paced with us perfectly. We chatted the whole hike to Deep Gap Shelter and found out they were also a couple who started on the 16th. What a small world we live in. Funny how you could go days without seeing somebody and then just run into them on a shuttle. We stopped for water 3 miles away from the shelter and I walkEd down a very sharp incline for about .25 mile. This is going to suck I thought to myself as I realized I had to hike back up. The climb was so tough that I had to take a break getting back up to my pack. When we made it to the shelter, there were several people already set up and eating. We joined Scott and Hollywood and talked about muscle stretches. Scott designed performance halls and had worked on the Kimmel Center, Broadway theatres, and was currently working on the Palace Theatre on 47th street. Again, what a small world! We were going to make it to the North Carolina border tomorrow!
